Balance & Strength
Therapy

Hi I am Brittani! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Sports Psychology Consultant who believes we all come with strengths. Life gets tough at times trying to juggle who we are, heal from past experiences, and adapt to expectations placed on us. My approach is genuine, strength based, non traditional, focused on your individualized needs, full of humor, and drawing from many evidenced based practices to find effective results for you.

I have several years of therapy experience conducting ABA therapy, working in county mental health with adults and children, and more recently with individuals in a private practice setting. I have a desire for supporting others in choosing how to look at the past, how to take in the present, and how to build your future.

As a sports psychology consultant I work with teams and athletes to perform as close or at their optimal level in their sport using mental skills techniques. As a previous college athlete turned mental health professional, I know the mental and physical toll sports play on athletes, so I am hoping to provide some clarification, open up conversations, and smash the stigma related to mental health in sports.

I am here to provide you with some real-talk about the struggles of relationships, transitions, trauma, societal pressure, and self discovery in a safe judgmental free space.

As a previous college athlete I have a passion for helping other athletes explore the role their sport plays or played in their life, assisting with mental performance, and processing the next stages of their life post athletics and honoring those experiences. I also work with athletes to address different mental and psychological components of performance such as motivation, self-confidence, anxiety, mood, and concentration.

Therapy is all about finding the right match and I look forward to seeing if we are a good fit and supporting you in finding your authentic self, so that you can have a genuine relationship with yourself and others.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way.

EMDR

Phased, focused approach to treating trauma and other symptoms by reconnecting the traumatized person in a safe and measured way to the images, self-thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with the trauma, and allowing the natural healing powers of the brain to work through the trauma.

Solution Focused

A hope friendly, positive emotion eliciting, future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral change.

ACT

Acceptance and commitment therapy is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment

Narrative

Help individuals identify their values and the skills associated with them. It provides individuals with knowledge of their ability to live these values so they can effectively confront current and future problems.

Everyone can use therapy. Using therapy as a skills-building tool can be helpful for individuals, when you’re in relationships with others or when one is at the starting line of building good life skills.

Therapy can also help with:
  • Getting a better understanding of your sense of self, your values, and your goals
  • Identifying and managing burnout
  • Exploration of issues past and present
  • Learning self-care and self-regulation
  • Learning coping skills for emotions
  • Learning to be kind to yourself
  • Developing and learning communications skills

One of the many misconceptions about therapy is that it's only for people with big trauma, issues or a diagnosed mental illness. Talking to a therapist before you’re in a crisis mode is the best way to equip yourself with tools and skills for those times when life throws you a curveball. It can also be useful for self-exploration, building self-esteem, and to help you craft amazing relationships with yourself and others.
Yes, I do accept some insurances including Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, UHC, and Optum. Through my current platform with Headway billing through your insurance is a simple process.

I also am able to create superbills for those with PPO insurance plans and Out of Network benefits for some reimbursement. Please check-in with your insurance company for further details.

For those without insurance or plans I do not cover/accept the out of pocket rate is $150.
Talk therapy encourages open and honest dialogue about issues that cause you distress. Through your relationship with your therapist, you’ll work to identify and understand how these stressors are impacting your life, plus develop strategies to manage the symptoms.

If you’re still on the fence about the benefits of talk therapy, consider this: About 75 percent of people who participate in talk therapy experience some benefit, according to the American Psychological Association.
Sessions traditionally last 45-55 minutes. Both therapist and client have a grace period of 15 minutes at the beginning of session.
You should feel like you can be yourself and honest. Your therapist should create a judgment-free zone where you can freely express what you feel and think. You should enjoy talking with your therapist and have a good back and forth in your conversations. You should also feel like your therapist supports you and cares for your wellbeing.

Give your therapist three tries. Usually, it takes at least three sessions before you start to understand how your therapist can impact your life. It is important to remember that when you meet people, first impressions are important and lasting. It’s the same with therapy — you’re getting to know each other.
Any session that is missed by a no show or canceling less than 24 hours in advance will be charged a $150 fee.

The only exception to this cancellation policy is in the event of a serious illness or emergency.
